This includes strategic planning, measurement, and reporting, with a focus on delivering net zero emissions commitments and advancing climate adaptation initiatives. The role collaborates closely with the Team Leader Environment, the Environment team, and other departments to enhance environmental performance and community engagement.Key responsibilities of the position include: Provide policy, strategic, and technical advice on environmental sustainability, focusing on greenhouse gas reduction and climate adaptation.Develop and implement strategies, programs, and projects to build council’s capacity for emissions reduction and climate resilience.Lead and coordinate the organisation’s Zero Net Emissions Plan and the Green Business Incentive Scheme.Deliver awareness programs to promote a whole-of-organisation approach to climate action.Engage with the community and regional partners to support collaborative sustainability initiatives.Foster internal partnerships and initiatives to strengthen organisational understanding of environmental priorities.Collaborate with industry specialists and research institutions to adopt best practices and innovative sustainability approaches.Apply continuous improvement to council’s climate response, identifying and implementing enhancements.The successful applicant will have: A Tertiary qualification in environmental management, sustainability planning, carbon management or similar disciplines is essential.Minimum 5 years’ experience in environmental management, planning, or related roles, preferably in a local government context.Experience in climate change mitigation, adaptation, and sustainability programs.Strategic planning experience, including research, trend analysis, reporting, and corporate response to environmental issues.Project management skills: managing multiple projects, budgets, consultants, and contractors; preparing reports and project briefs.Experience in governance frameworks, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and stakeholder engagement.Knowledge of contemporary climate responses, carbon management, and zero net emissions targets.Ability to plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate environmental policies and projects.Knowledge of grant applications, business case development, and relevant state and national environmental legislation and policy.More information can be found on the Position Description located below. This is a Level 6 position which has a current salary of $112,395 (plus Super). Confidential enquiries can be directed to Ann Gibbons, Team Leader Environment on 0439 645 994 or ann.gibbons@cityofpae.sa.gov.au.
